Nestled in Proserpine, the Whitsunday Leisure Activity Centre (WLAC) is more than a disability respite centre—it’s a vibrant hub uniting seniors, people with disabilities and the wider community across the Whitsundays (including Airlie Beach, Cannonvale and Bowen). From social programs and workshops to volunteer opportunities, WLAC empowers everyone to connect, learn and thrive together.

Why Community Engagement Matters in the Whitsundays

Active community engagement builds trust, promotes well‑being and sparks pride in our region. When participants feel seen and supported, they:

  • Strengthen relationships—lasting friendships form over shared experiences.

  • Boost confidence—trying new activities fuels personal growth.

  • Enhance local spirit—collective events remind us we belong, whether in Proserpine or on the beaches of Airlie Beach.

Bringing People Together: Social Connection Programs

Our social calendar is crafted around choice and inclusion, so participants pick what brings them joy:

  • Bingo Sessions in the Proserpine hall

  • Karaoke Nights, where everyone’s invited to sing their favourite tunes

  • Drum‑Fun Workshops, combining rhythm exploration with relaxed group camaraderie

  • Card Games—from classic bridge tables to light‑hearted Uno rounds

  • Community Lunches in Cannonvale, featuring shared meals and conversation

  • Monthly Picnic Tours to local parks and gardens, perfect for a breath of fresh air

  • Day Trips to Mackay & Bowen, offering transport, lunch and guided activities

  • Morning of Melodies at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre (PEC), an arranged outing to enjoy live musical performances

These inclusive social programs not only entertain but also spark meaningful relationships—turning faces in the crowd into lifelong friends.

Holistic Well‑Being: Therapies & Counselling

Beyond recreation, WLAC’s qualified team provides essential support:

  • One‑on‑One Counselling, tailored to each individual’s emotional needs

  • Group Therapy Sessions, where peer encouragement helps participants open up

  • Referral Coordination under the NDIS, connecting you with allied‑health specialists

By integrating mental‑health support with social activities, we ensure every participant has the tools and care they need to flourish.

A Home Away from Home: WLAC

Located in Proserpine, WLAC offers a structured, nurturing environment for day‑program participants. Here, small‑group activities and personalised support plans help everyone feel safe, engaged and valued. We provide:

  • Trained staff on hand to guide each activity

  • Transport to and from home, so travel is never a barrier

  • Flexible schedules that adapt to individual interests and needs

Accessibility & Transport: Removing Barriers

WLAC is committed to making every program fully accessible:

  • Door‑to‑Door Transport, ensuring safe, comfortable travel for all participants

  • Wheelchair‑Accessible Venues and vehicles, so no one is excluded

  • Individual Support Plans, co‑created with you to meet personal goals

By handling the logistics, we let participants focus on connection, creativity and fun—whether they’re belting out a karaoke classic or cheering at a Morning of Melodies performance.
